Our walks are advertised in our bi-monthly Newsletter and are open to all members of our u3a. However, whilst Covid-19 restrictions apply, anyone who is not a member of the group and would like to join a walk should contact the Group Leader so that they can be sent full details along with the risk assessments and current government guidance.
We usually walk between 4.5 and 6 miles, stopping half way round for a short break. We start at a pub and return for a meal which has been booked before we start the walk. It is not mandatory to stay for a meal, but it enables us to join together in a relaxed and informal way, which we think enhances our enjoyment of a day out in the fresh air.
We walk in a variety of areas including the New Forest and local woods and downland. An average level of fitness is required and the terrain is often uneven, so appropriate footwear is recommended.
In December we have our ‘mince pie walk’ a popular event which is well attended. The walk is shorter than most to allow for a stop half way for mince pies and a seasonal tipple and/or coffee.
Members of the group volunteer to organise and lead a walk of their own choice, and the Group Leader ensures there are enough leaders to plan walks throughout the year.
